Head of Events (Director Level) at Blavity

This is the opportunity to take your career to the next level & be a part of Blavity, Inc.'s Experiential Team that produces, creates, ideates, & executes huge experiences & destinations for AfroTech, Summit 21, brand partners, & internal events. This person will manage the experiential team including marketing, customer success and production. Candidate should have experience planning and executing at key tentpoles such as CES, SXSW, Coachella, Cannes, etc. The candidate should be a true leader, excellent collaborator, and planner with great attention to detail, as well as hold a proven track record of leading comprehensive marketing programs and brand building.

Responsibilities:

  • 360-degree event and team management from scheduling to real-time execution and guiding team in their execution   
  • Develop, present, and demonstrate high-level competency in selling an idea, responding to questions, and communicating Blavity, Inc. point of view   
  • Provide strategic and aesthetic oversight as well as evaluate and select creative, art, and copy pertaining to event activations; you will evoke the relevant Blavity Inc., brand and be able to emulate that in all creative.
  • Manage vendors & budget within scope; provide cost oversight to ensure cost management & prior due diligence; coordinate with event department to ensure timely payments & agreements
  • Manage junior staff defining responsibilities & oversight
  • Work closely with customer success leadership to create reports and manage client onboarding process
  •  Leading your team, oversee programs from ideation to production, execution, and postpress wrap-ups  
  • Liaise with clients and agencies on all cobranded event activations

Qualifications and Requirements:   

  • A minimum of 8 years event marketing experience and 3-4 years managerial experience
  • Demonstrated track record of excellence in executing events at a high level in addition to thought-leadership in ideation and planning and strategy of events and activations   
  • Possesses consistently calm, clear-headed leadership in high-pressure situations and an ability to effectively manage multiple projects on time and within budget   
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work in addition to workload for a team to meet deadlines and multiple requests
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams (sales, events, external agencies) and with senior-level executives
  • Positive, can-do attitude and a problem solver who enjoys working in a fast-paced, high-energy, and rewarding environment
  • Extensive knowledge of the influencer, digital, and social media spaces with great concepts, practices, procedures, and cutting-edge technologies
  • Experience directing and managing a creative team as well as developing creative brand tentpole programs
  • PR experience – inclusive of working with talent, wranglers, and PR professionals  
  • Working knowledge of existing and emerging trends in fashion, music, media/entertainment, arts, and pop culture
  • Strong local and national vendor relationships  
  • Exceptional research, writing, presentation, and organizational skills
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Travel required
